Modern NFL teams carry at most 3 QBs on their active roster. With Fitz taking one spot and Brad Smith taking the #3 QB spot, that just leaves one open position and they have to use that spot for a legitimate backup. That's why I don't see the Buffalo Bills drafting a development QB until, at the earliest, the 2014 draft and maybe not until 2015. I get the value of why they are using one slot for Brad Smith and it's pretty obvious with the contract investment in Fitz he's the starter and they have to have a backup, so I have no issue with this. I'm just reading enough posts with people speculating about the Bills taking a development QB in the 2013 draft and I thought I'd post why I don't see that happening.
