I know there has been at least some discussion in other articles about our corners and I have seen some concern shared about our potential starter at CB, a one, Aaron Williams. So my apologies if you feel this thought would have been best shared in a different format, I just didn't see and opportunity to really express what I'm starting to feel as increased concern.
I'll sum it up like this. I loved what Williams brought to the team last year when healthy and thought he looked good in coverage as well as run support. I thought he showed promise and overall was solid in his rookie season. In fact I have been really looking forward to seeing him return healthy with a season under his belt. That optimism is shifting now because although I have not been to any of the practices or the first preseason game in person, what I have seen in the highlights and through the first game have been troubling to me. It just seems like when I see a receiver making a nice play or a pretty pass go for big yardage, Williams has been on the opposite end far too often. Not every time but more than I would have expected. I was even disappointed in his tackling this past game which was surprising.
Maybe I'm seeing things and this isn't the case. Maybe he's playing solid if unspectacular football so much so there hasn't been any real reason for reporters to write a glowing report on him this offseason. I sure hope so. Don't get me wrong, I’m not freaking out; ready to throw in the towel or anything like that. I just have a growing concern where once was optimism. Is there sunshine surrounding this situation and would anyone be so kind as to point it out?
