On Wednesday night, Buffalo Bills head coach Chan Gailey was cryptic about a "medical issue" preventing second-year middle linebacker Kelvin Sheppard from participating in training camp practice. Gailey did tell reporters that Sheppard would only miss a short amount of time, and Sheppard himself confirmed that Thursday.
"I’m here breathing smiling and communicating, so I think I’m pretty fine," Sheppard told BuffaloBills.com today. "A couple of days off and I’ll be back on the field."
Sheppard did not reveal the nature of his ailment, but there are no indications of something serious lingering over the situation, and the new full-time middle 'backer out of LSU seems primed to return to the lineup in fairly short order. Until he does, street free agent signing Scott McKillop will take his middle linebacker reps with the first-team defense, and second-year pro Chris White may sneak a few reps in here and there, as well.
