I am antsy like everyone else here. I am really looking forward to pre-season because I believe each team gives us a nice look and build towards the season opener vs the Jets.Which pre-season match up are you looking forward to the most and find to be the best tune up for the opener against the Jets? If you want to mix and match your answer go to the comments and leave your thoughts.
1. Washington Redskins- I think this will be a good test to go against a mobile quarterback in RGIII who can throw the ball deep. The fact he is a rookie is great because if anyone remembers the Cincy game last year with Dalton it will be a good measuring point for our defense to make his debut a hellish growth experience. The Skins defense is nothing to shake your head at either. They have a solid line and good linebackers. So it will be great to see our run game against them and nice start for our offense line to go against.
2. The Vikings- Matt Kahil will be interesting to watch with LDE. They have a young Qb in Christian Ponder with a few weapons in the WR along with an athletic TE in Kyle Randolph & veteran TE John Carlson. Jared Allen going against our LT will be great to see as well. I don't expect Adrian Peterson to be in the mix that long. The two rookie Arkansas WR in Jarius Wright and Greg Childs will provide our secondary with a challenge between the size of the TEs and the WR being fast and shifty. Wright and Childs will also factor into the Special Teams play as well.
3. The Steelers- Big Ben will offer a nice step up in the QB position in the pre-season. He is a veteran and a big quarterback that we can hopefully bat some passes down. They will rely heavily on the run trying to spare his shoulder. While pitts defense is always adequate. Mike Wallace and their speedy WRs will be an interesting test for our young secondary. Plus our interior guys going aginst DeCastro and Pouncey which is one of the better up and coming interior O-lines.
4. The Lions- They provided a nice glimpse into a team being able to break out of a playoff slump. Stafford is a solid quarterback. I really want to see Gilmore and Williams going up against Calvin Johnson. I think a huge WR that is dominate will be great precursor for our secondary. Though the Jets don't have the talent that Calvin Johnson has at WR they have a couple tall and big WR so giving a few plays and maybe a couple of series against a player of Calvin Johnson. The D-Line for the Lions is formidable as well to test our O-Line further with Fairley, Suh, Avril and Vanden Bosch. Reiff will be a nice watch as well since everyone thought we would pick him in the draft. They also pick up some secondary help in Bentley.
