I watched the first half of the Steelers game last night and wanted to put some thoughts down. Just to get this out here and see what others have to add.
Corey McIntyre is a devastating blocker. He creams people and loves it. It's enjoying watching a fullback destroy linebackers consistently.
Stephon Gilmore is going to give up a lot of yardage and got fooled numerous times out there.
Aaron Williams is Gilmores superior right now.
Cordy Glenn had a few issues but overall was great in pass pro and in run blocking. He's got amazing talent.
The Bills love to play Levitre at tackle from the guard position. I've been critical of Levitres size but every time I watch him i'm impressed. Chan pulls him from left to right to get the LBs to suck up to the run on a pass play and the rest of the line blocks down to Levitre and Levitre kicks out to take on the rushing end or LB. This is a fantastic play because it opens up the middle of the field and the edge rusher doesn't think Levitre is going out to get him, but he does.
Kelvin Sheppard knows how to sift through traffic in the run game, kid looks much improved over last year.
Nick Barnett is fantastic back there as well.
Jarius Byrd is the best safety we've had in a long, long, long time. His recognizes run extremely fast and plays it well. Look for well timed blitzes from him as well.
I still don't know how Fred Jackson does it but he's fantastic. Always reading his linemen perfectly. Some running backs don't read their offensive lineman's leverage on the defender but he does and it's great.
Stevie Johnson needs to get his head in the game. 2 passes Fitz threw Stevie didn't know what was going on.
Who says Fitz can't throw the deep ball? He threw 4 in the first half and 3 of them looked really good. I'm counting throws over 15 yards. Buffalo is going to attack deep.
Urbik looks shaky in pass protection, gave up a QB hit and just looked sluggish out there.
I'm no longer concerned about Fitz's accuracy or our offense for that matter. We're going to score as long as we're healthy.
Arthur Moats looks good, but still needs to learn to play with a little more reckless abandon. He needs to attack the blocker and ball carrier better.
Ben Roethlisberger is a really good QB, people don't give him enough credit. He made a few plays in the passing game that are simply unstoppable.
Our defensive line is ridiculous. Kyle Williams is easily the best player on our line right now, and it's not even close. Always giving the offensive line fits and destroying run and pass plays. Unblockable.
I think Dareus is playing a little more of a run stuffing role because he didn't look to attack the QB like Kyle or Mario was. Could have been a scheme thing but he wasn't impressive to me.
David Nelson has excellent hands, yes we know this but it's worth mentioning again.
We rotated our defensive line a lot. Even in the 1st quarter we had the backups in there for a while, expect that trend to continue.
Nice run stuffing, Spencer Johnson.
On the Steelers first TD after the Spiller fumble the Steelers were clearly working on their red zone offense. They ran 7 man protection and got 5 yards, then ran an extremely well designed pass play that will always be open for another 5 yards and then ran it in. But the 2 pass plays are regular season red zone plays. Max protect with 7 blockers and a beautifully designed pass play that really is almost impossible to stop.
