The brother of Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Marcell Dareus has been killed, per a WIAT Birmingham report picked up by WIVB in Buffalo. Simeon Gilmore, 19, was among three men killed in an alleged triple homicide.
Part of the reason that Dareus, who will turn 23 in November, was such an intriguing draft prospect in 2011 revolved around his overcoming a tragic past to get to that point. His father died when he was six, and his mother fell so ill that she was unable to care for him and his six siblings (five of them brothers). He lived with his high school football coach, Scott Livingston, who was killed in an automobile accident. We covered the sad story in a "character scouting report" leading up to the 2011 NFL Draft; time has proven that Dareus has character of the highest order.
Now, Dareus is dealing with the unspeakably sad and untimely loss of his younger brother. Our thoughts and sincere condolences go out to Marcell and his friends and family today.
