In the recent Buddy Nix approval poll there have been some comments disapproving his work based on the lack of a true back-up QB - specifically related to keeping Thigpen and trading for Tavaris Jackson. While I can understand that some fans expect this aspect of the team to have a perfect solution, it simply isn't the case this season. With that being said though, I would be curious what current back-up QB Bills fans would rather have than Tavaris Jackson.
I am having a hard time thinking of another team's back-up that I would feel comfortable with if Fitz got hurt.
Matt Flynn couldn't beat out a 3rd round rookie. Ryan Mallett has been questionable with the Pats. Colt McCoy is nothing to get excited about.
The only two that I see who have been successful are TJ Yates and Tim Tebow. Yates was fortunate to have a stellar D in Houston, and minimzed mistakes as a 7th round pick. I don't think anyone would look at Yates and say "I told you he would be good."
Tebow also had the advantage of playing with a good defense, and delivered a number of clutch plays last year as the Broncos finished 8-8 and won a game in the playoffs. He has also delivered a media circus to New York - which I would rather not have in Buffalo. And considering that a firstround pick was spent on tebow, no experts at this point have said he can develop into an NFL quarterback - not one.
Please let me know if there is someone missing, or a QB you would rather have that Tavaris Jackson. You can keep Curtis Painter, Dan Orlovsky, Graham Harrel, and Chase Daniels all day. I'm good with TJ.
