It was a matter of time, I was waiting for sure that coaching staff was getting fired. I'm listing it out as such:
- GM
- Coaching Staff
- Cuts
- Free-Agency
- Mock Draft
GM:
I stay with Nix as my GM. I listed my reasons in another post and then eventually pass the torch to Doug Whaley.
Coaching staff:
Love for two coaches to team up on this team. Whether it was Lovie Smith/Norv Turner. Lovie Smith/Chip Kelly. Mike Zimmer/Russ Grimm. Jon Gruden/Jay Gruden. Bruce Arians/Kevin Whinsenhunt
*I wonder about Jay Gruden though because curious what he is looking for since he turned down HC jobs last season.
**For the sake of picking. I choose:
Head Coach: Mike Zimmer
Offensive Coordinator: Bobby Petrino or Ken Whisenhunt or Russ Grimm
Defensive Coordinator: Jay Hayes (DL coach from Bengals)
Cut: Tashard Choice, Taravis Jackson, Spenser Johnson, Ruvell Martin, Tyler Thigpen, Thomas Welch, Keith Williams, Chris Kelsay. Terrence McGee, David Snow , Tarvaris Jackson, Fitzpatrick, Marcus Easely, Kirk Morrison
Re-Sign: Jarius Bryd, Andy L, Chad Rhinhart, Shawne Merriman, Kyle Moore, David Nelson, Colin Brown, Leadois McKelvin,
Free Agency: Kick the tires on Dwight Freeney, Jason Campbell, Daryl Smith, and Takeo Spikes if he becomes free with Chargers cleaning house. I expect no signings though.
Draft:
1st Round pick 8: Quarterback Mike Glennon out of NC State.
i was first really for Tyler Wilson out of Arkansas because of all I heard. with his toughness and arm. He has both but when I watched him and I saw at best Jay Culter( who i don't like) and at worst Fitzpatrick. When I made a list of negatives and positives the only Negative I could really point out about Glennon was he needs to add weight and serious muscle. I like his frame and how he can escape and extend plays with his limited athleticism. He led multiple comeback wins. The Bills constantly talk about WR that is open when they are covered. This QB consistently hits WR and targets that are covered and makes them open. Plus at 6-5 def nice not to have to worry as much about tip passes that are frustrating as can be with Fitz.
Some may call for Te'O at this spot but with the Jets right behind us. You take the guy you want most and Glennon is that guy for me at the QB position. Not that I will do this but I think it is easier to trade up when not seeking QB then trying to get one since the opposing team can milk the trade.
Aaron Murray is another QB I would Select if he declares.
2nd Round Pick: LB Kevin Minter out of LSU.
Guy just plays fast. I'd take him Olegtree out of Georgia as well. One of the top 3 Linebackers has to fall to the 2nd round.Minter would be welcomed addition cause he can cover and play any of the linebacker spots. He plays fast and hits hard. If we can't get top 3 talent at Linebacker then go for Strong Safety Shawne Williams out of Georgia.
3rd Round Pick: WR Aaron Mellette of out Elon.(Senior Bowl)
Makes catches with his hands. Has great length and size at 6 foot 3 220. We need this type of WR. With Glennon throwing to him think they could compliment each other well.
4th Round Pick: TE Zach Sudfeld out of Nevada. (playing East/West Shrine Game)
With Scott Chandler tearing his ACL and a Rookie QB you need to give him a safety blanket. Sudfeld is 6 foot 7 255 pounds. He is an all around Tight End, he can block, and is a redzone threat. He takes pride in blocking.
5th Round Pick: LB DeVonte Holloman South Carolina
Linebacker we need for depth and development. Played on a good South Carolina squad and could cover the pass.
6th Round Pick: DL Mike Catapano out of Princeton
DE that has a variety of pass rush moves and has a high motor. 6 foot 4 272 will be a guy that Jay Hayes can develop and get the most out of, he did that with the Bengals lines time and time again.
Roster:
Offense
QB: Mike Glennon Jason Campbell/Tarvaris Jackson Brad Smith
RB: CJ Spiller Fred Jackson Chris Singelton (undrafted out of tulsa) 260 pound RB or get a small Sproles like Running back
FB: C Mac
TE: Zac Sudfeld Lee Smith Scott Chandler
WR: Steve Johnson Donald Jones David Nelson TJ Graham Aaron Mellette Brad Smith
OT: Cordy Glenn Eric Pears Chris Hairston Zebrie Saunders Sam Young
OG: Andy Levitre Kraig Urbik Chad Rhinehart Colin Brown
C: Eric Wood Colin Brown Kraig Urbik
Defense
DE: Mario Williams Mark Anderson Kyle Moore Shawne Merriman Mike Catapano/Jay Ross
DT: Marcel Dareus Kyle Williams Alex Carrington Jarron Gilbert/Troupe/Jay Ross
ILB: Kelvin Sheppard Kevin Minter Nick Barnett Chris White
OLB: Nick Barnett Kevin Minter
OLB: Nigel Bradham Devonte Holloman Bryan Scott
CB: Stephon Gilmore Leodis McKelvin Crezdon Butler
CB: Ron Brooks Justin Rodgers Crezdon Butler
FS: Jaruis Bryd Mana Silva Searcy/Brooks
SS: Aaron Williams Da'Norris Searcy Ron Brooks
Special Teams:
PK Rian Lindell ( or if they can improve then great)
P/R McKelvin Graham Spiller
K/R McKelvin Brad Smith
Quick Explanation: I kept Brad Smith because I believe he can be used better. Even though I have him listed as #6 WR I think he was one of the better ones we had this season. He has solid hands and makes tough catches. This is pre-training camp cuts. So they are 53 people listed here meaning 3 will be have to let go or go to practice squad. I listed the rookies a little lower because not sure what you are going to get. Sudfeld got slatted as a starter only because Chandler tore his ACL.
