Danny Crossman Hired As Bills Special Teams Coach, Per Report

Raj Mehta-USA TODAY Sports

As momentum builds toward an announcement revealing the Buffalo Bills' full coaching staff, The Detroit News reports that Detroit Lions special teams coach Danny Crossman will take the same position in Buffalo.

With rumors swirling that the Buffalo Bills may release the names of their full coaching staff in short order, The Detroit News is reporting that Doug Marrone has found himself a special teams coordinator. Danny Crossman, 46, has asked out of his contract in the same role with the Detroit Lions to join Marrone in Buffalo.

As the report points out, Marrone and Crossman coached together for a season at the Coast Guard Academy nearly two decades ago, and were also teammates in the old World Football League. Crossman has been coaching since 1993, spending the last six in the NFL working with the special teams units in Detroit and, prior to that, Carolina. If you're looking for a reason to be bummed about something today, Lions fans are pretty pleased that Crossman won't be back in Detroit next season.

If the Crossman hiring comes to fruition, the Bills will have all three of their major coordinators in place, with Crossman joining offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett and defensive coordinator Mike Pettine. We're also now up to six unconfirmed assistant coaching hires - Crossman, Tyrone Wheatley, Anthony Weaver, Jim O'Neil, Chuck Dreisbach and Brian Fleury - which you can track in this StoryStream.
