Ike Hilliard To Coach Buffalo Bills Wide Receivers, Per Report

Richard Mackson-US PRESSWIRE

Buffalo Bills head coach Doug Marrone has reportedly made two more additions to his coaching staff - and both are intriguing moves for different reasons.

The Buffalo Bills still have openings on their coaching staff under head man Doug Marrone - even after confirming 13 hires in the 11 days Marrone has been on the job. They've reportedly begun filling those openings.

Rich Campbell of The Washington Times reports that Washington Redskins receivers coach Ike Hilliard will join Marrone's staff in the same capacity. Hilliard, 36, was in the final stage of his 12-year playing career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers when Nathaniel Hackett was a quality control assistant under Jon Gruden. As Campbell notes, it was likely that link that led to Hilliard making a lateral move after one season in Washington.

Hilliard played for the New York Giants for eight seasons, then with the Bucs for four. In his 12-year career, he caught 546 passes for 6,397 yards with 35 touchdowns. Now, he'll apparently be coaching up Stevie Johnson and the rest of the Bills' wide receivers.

Additionally, Zach Braziller of the New York Post reports that Syracuse assistant head coach John Anselmo will be joining Marrone in Buffalo, as well. Anselmo coached the defensive backs briefly before assuming the sole title of assistant head coach under Marrone, and he was chiefly a recruiting presence in the New York City region with the Orange. It's not yet clear what Anselmo's role may be under Marrone.
