Former Buffalo Bills Head Coach Chan Gailey Sitting 2013 Out

Robert Mayer-USA TODAY Sports

Tim Graham of the Buffalo News caught up with fired Buffalo Bills head coach Chan Gailey on Friday, who spoke about his plans for 2013.

Chan Gailey lost his job as head coach of the Buffalo Bills on December 31. As one of the first coaching casualties - and knowing he wouldn't be seeing another head coaching stint in the NFL - Gailey had ample opportunity to find work this off-season and still does. He just won't.

Tim Graham of The Buffalo News caught up with Gailey on Friday and sent out a series of tweets from the exchange: "Had a nice chat with Chan Gailey this afternoon. He's doing well and said he will stay out of coaching this year."

This will be Gailey's first off-season without football since before his playing days began in his home state of Georgia. In 2009, he was fired by the Kansas City Chiefs during the preseason and sat out the regular season.

"Chan Gailey received interest from teams. I know because 2 NFL executives asked me for his agent's contact info (Chan has an obscure agent)."

Graham notes that Gailey is the first former Bills coach to leave the NFL since Marv Levy in 1997. He asked Gailey if he wanted to talk about his tenure with the Bills or how they moved on without him, but the former coach "graciously declined." Graham's word is the same I would use: "Classy."
