Chip Kelly Begins NFL Interviews With Buffalo Bills On Friday

USA TODAY Sports

The Buffalo Bills will begin interviewing head coaching candidates again today, as they're reportedly scheduled to sit down with Oregon head coach Chip Kelly.

The Buffalo Bills have already interviewed two head coaching candidates this week, and they'll move on to a third candidate today when they meet with University of Oregon head coach Chip Kelly, fresh off of last night's 35-17 Fiesta Bowl win.

Pulling together various reports, the Bills have either interviewed or are scheduled to interview five coaching candidates in total before the weekend is over. Those five names, and the competition that the Bills have for the services of each coach, are as follows.

  • Ken Whisenhunt (interviewed Wednesday, 1/2): There have been rumors that the Bills have had (or will have) a second sit-down with the former Arizona head man, but those are unconfirmed. Whisenhunt, 50, has also interviewed with Cleveland.
  • Ray Horton (interviewed Wednesday, 1/2): With Kansas City looking likely to land Andy Reid, Horton's odds increase of becoming Arizona's next head coach. Horton, 52, has interviewed with Arizona and Cleveland.
  • Chip Kelly (scheduled to interview today): The hottest name on the market at the moment, Kelly's first interview will be with Buffalo. He's also reportedly atop the wish lists in both Cleveland and Philadelphia, and may get more interviews, as well.
  • Mike McCoy (scheduled to interview Saturday): Denver's offensive coordinator can't take a job until after his playoff run ends, which could take a while. He's nonetheless a hot commodity, scoring interviews with Arizona, Philadelphia and Chicago, as well.
  • Lovie Smith (scheduled to interview this weekend): The former Chicago head coach has yet to schedule another interview, but teams are reportedly interested. It's not precisely clear what day he'll interview with Bills brass.

Keep it locked in to Buffalo Rumblings for the latest coaching rumors. With Kelly on the docket, today is a monumental day for one Russ Brandon.
