I like the changes to the Pro Bowl format in theory and look forward to seeing how it works out, but I had an
alternative curious idea for a pre-superbowl fiesta.
Disclaimer: I'm not sure this is a good idea, a terrible idea or what. I'm interested in what people have to say about it.
Seems like every year there are two teams that fans want to see matched-up, but for one reason or another—they're in the same conference, one of them has a bad game in the playoffs and gets an early exit, etc.—we never end up seeing that match up. Two great teams, or even two interesting teams, never play against each other (edit: or perhaps we want a rematch?).
Obviously, that's how it works and that's what makes the playoffs great, that do-or-die environment, but what if the fans could bring two eliminated teams back for one final game played the week prior to the Superbowl? No championship involved of course.
Does it weaken the importance of playoff games?
Would it take away from the actual Superbowl?
Would the two teams feel they are really playing for anything? Pride perhaps?
