So I'll be the first to admit that I had been optimistic about EJ Manuel but also a little underwhelmed by him during his first few games here. While the Carolina comeback was amazing, we barely moved the ball that day and needed a huge PI call to get it done, but I was at the game and it was magical. When asked what the Bills would be like after EJ got hurt and Lewis was named the starter, my reaction was pretty simple - I didn't think we were getting much from EJ anyway at that point, so I think the team's performance will essentially remain the same.
I know Thad's only two games in, but I wanted to do a comparison between the two, and after looking at the numbers and watching the games, I'm a little worried about our future at QB. I don't believe anyone thinks Thad Lewis is a franchise QB, and I'm of the opinion that if you don't have a top 10 or 12 QB in the league, then you still need to be looking for one. Most Bills fans however, do feel that Manuel is a future franchise guy, and that's what's got me right now - Based on what I've seen and what the numbers say, it's pretty much a tossup between Lewis and Manuel, and I'm not so sure that the Bills have a long term solution at QB.
I just rated them out on a per game basis and gave EJ the benefit of only counting the Cleveland game as a .5 for his stats - the TD they scored on the drive he went out also counted for him in his ppg stats.
PCT YDS/A TD/Game Int/Game Sack/Game RATE YDS/G QBR PPG
Thad 62.5 6.53 1 0.5 4.5 85.3 209.0 22.2 23.5
EJ 56.7 6.57 1.1 0.7 2.9 79.4 197.0 42.2 22.4
Thad has the edge in a few and EJ has the edge in a few - overall though, neither has shown that he's better than the other - so what do you think Bills fans? Do we have a franchise QB on the roster?
