Bills vs. Saints, NFL Week 8: second half open thread

Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sports

The New Orleans Saints have scored 14 straight points to take a 21-10 halftime lead over the Buffalo Bills.

At the mid-way point of the second quarter, the Buffalo Bills had rattled off 10 straight points - Stevie Johnson caught a 13-yard touchdown pass from Thad Lewis, and Dan Carpenter kicked a 37-yard field goal - to take a 10-7 lead on the host New Orleans Saints. They did so while getting strong play from their defense and two missed Garrett Hartley field goal attempts.

The Saints, however, did what they do best: scored more points. Successive drives ended in touchdowns - Drew Brees hit Kenny Stills for 69 yards, and then Jimmy Graham for 15 - to not only erase the Bills' lead, but put themselves up 21-10 at halftime. Brees has been surgical in this contest, completing 16-of-20 passes for 206 yards with three touchdowns and no turnovers. He has been the biggest difference in the contest, along with the Bills' inability to consistently move the football through the air.

New Orleans also opens up the second half with the football, meaning that the Bills could be facing a three-score deficit before they even see the football in the third quarter. Needless to say, the defense needs a big stop to start the second half if the Bills are going to climb their way back into this game. Let's go Buffalo!
