Bills-Saints final score: Drew Brees dominates as Saints win 35-17

Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sport

Up 10-7 in the second quarter, the Buffalo Bills had no answer for Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints, who scored 21 straight points in the second and third quarters and cruised to a 35-17 victory.

The Buffalo Bills flashed moments of competence in Louisiana on Sunday afternoon, but ultimately had no answer for Drew Brees as he led the New Orleans Saints to a 35-17 victory.

Brees was dominant, completing 26-of-34 passes for 332 yards with a whopping five touchdowns - two to rookie receiver Kenny Stills, two more to injured tight end Jimmy Graham, and a fifth to veteran Lance Moore to open the scoring on the day.

The Bills made their strongest run at the Saints in the second quarter, when Thad Lewis hit Stevie Johnson for a 13-yard touchdown and Dan Carpenter connected on a 37-yard field goal to give the Bills a 10-7 lead. By halftime, however, the Saints had extended their lead to 21-10, and made it 2010 early in the third quarter on Graham's second touchdown. Fred Jackson scored from a yard out in the fourth quarter to cut the lead to 28-17, but Brees put the final nail in the coffin with his second scoring toss to Stills with less than eight minutes remaining.

Buffalo exits this game at 3-5 overall halfway through the 2013 season, and they're a bit banged up: several players played through injuries, most notably a gimpy Johnson, while others (chiefly Marquise Goodwin) didn't return. The Bills will lick their wounds and return to action next Sunday against Andy Reid and the 8-0 Kansas City Chiefs in Orchard Park.

We'll have much more on this game throughout the evening and tomorrow morning.
