C.J. Spiller injury: RB a good bet to play in Bills vs. Chiefs

Rick Stewart

After a week out of the lineup, signs are positive that C.J. Spiller will be back in the fold when the Bills host the Chiefs on Sunday.

It's sounding like Buffalo Bills running back C.J. Spiller is a strong bet to play in Sunday's home game against the Kansas City Chiefs after a week out of the lineup to rest a high ankle sprain.

Spiller missed last Sunday's loss to the New Orleans Saints due to the injury, which has been bothering him since it happened in a Week 4 win over Baltimore. Spiller played in three straight games despite the ailment, rushing 24 times for 132 yards with one touchdown in that time frame. He also only played an average of 15 snaps per game in those contests, and after he didn't practice at all leading up to the Saints game, the Bills decided to hold Spiller out of the lineup.

Buffalo's top running back has participated on a limited basis on back-to-back days this week, and barring a setback, it's looking like he'll suit up against the Chiefs - though if he does, he still may not see his usual workload.

The news is good for Spiller - as it is for Fred Jackson and Stevie Johnson, who both returned to practice after taking the day off on Thursday - but things are still up in the air with quarterback Thad Lewis, who was a non-participant for a second straight day on Thursday. If he can't practice tomorrow, it seems exceedingly unlikely that he'll start on Sunday.
