Q2 Report: Top Players

PART I: GRADES
PART II: TOP PLAYERS

PART III: THE NEXT FOUR GAMES
PART IV: HALFTIME MOCK

Though the Bills have struggled at times, the Bills roster is arguably the most talented that it has been in recent years. A solid draft and some nice free agent signings have done well to bolster our depth and fill holes. While some players have yet to show their full potential (RB C.J. Spiller and S Da’Norris Searcy have had some good moments, but struggled at times) others have stepped up.

Offense:

3. LT Cordy Glenn

Despite the struggles of the offensive line in protecting the QB, one of the better blockers has been Glenn. Rarely do offensive linemen get acclaim, but recently PFF rated Glenn in their top-10 tackles of the NFL.

2. WR Stevie Johnson

Despite being banged up and missing a game, Johnson has been the most effective receiver for the Bills and most consistent. In the last 4 games he has caught 15 passes for 152 yards and a TD. Not awesome numbers by any means, but very impressive that he was literally on the field playing through a groin injury.

1. RB Fred Jackson

Again Jackson tops the list. Despite in his 30s and a drop-off in production, Jackson has been playing through multiple injuries and still doing damage against opponents, particularly against Miami where he picked up a huge third down late. In the last 4 games, he only had 53 carries for 169 yards (3.2 avg) but also 4 TDs to boot.

Honorable Mentions: QB Thad Lewis, TE Scott Chandler

Defense:

3. DT Kyle Williams

Kyle has been playing hard emotionally and in pure stats too. 24 tackles and 3 sacks hardly quantifies how big of an impact the meatball has had in the last four games, especially when he is double teamed and has to share the field with the next two guys.

2. DT Marcell Dareus

Dareus has been a steady, dominant presence in his third year. The last four games, he has racked up 19 tackles and a sack, but like most nose tackles, has been more disruptive than his numbers indicate, even when double teamed by blockers.

1. DE Mario Williams

If you haven’t seen by now, Mario has been playing his best football in his career and has 11 sacks to date, 5.5 in the last 4 games. Mario’s two sacks and forced fumble against the Dolphins won that game for us. He has been on the field for over 85% of the plays so far and like the two guys above, is commanding double teams… do the math on that.

Honorable Mentions: LB Kiko Alonzo, FS Jairus Byrd, LB Manny Lawson

Go Bills!
