Q2 Report: The Next 4 Games

PART I: GRADES
PART II: TOP PLAYERS

PART III: THE NEXT FOUR GAMES
PART IV: HALFTIME MOCK

The Buffalo Bills start off by facing the undefeated (8-0) Kansas City Chiefs for the second half of the season, but their next three opponents after that have just 8 wins combined. Clearly if the Bills have any shot of making the playoffs, they would do well to win three out of the next four games.

Here are the Bills offense stats and rank in the NFL compared to their upcoming opponents. (Stats are as of the end of Week 8.)

Week 9: Buffalo Bills vs. Kansas City Chiefs (8-0)

The Bills start off the second half of the year against an undefeated opponent. The Bills crushed the Chiefs the last time they played, but this is a whole new team they are facing. Kansas has a top-notch defense and while the Bills pass rush has been great with 27 sacks (2nd in the NFL), the Chiefs have 36 (11 from OLB Houston & 9 from OLB Hali). The key to beat the Chiefs is the run game. The Bills have to contain RB Jamaal Charles and also let C.J. Spiller have a heck of a game as KC’s weak spot is run defense.

Week 10: Buffalo Bills vs. Pittsburgh Steelers (2-5)

Big Ben and company have not been playing well this year, just a shadow from their Super Bowl era. Still Roethlisberger is a passing threat so the Bills need to dominate the Steelers O-Line to force mistakes. Defensively the Steelers will be a hard team to throw against, but given that their defense is ranked 27th in the run, that again will be the Bills main focus of attack which should hopefully relieve Thad Lewis of additional stress.

Week 11: Buffalo Bills vs. New York Jets (4-4)

The Bills were bested by the Jets in their first matchup of the year and will look to even the score. This time though the Bills have a healthy secondary and hopefully will have rookie QB E.J. Manuel back as well. The key here is to win the turnover battle; don’t make stupid mistakes offensively and generate pressure so that Geno Smith will make errors in turn. The Bills will have a hard time running the ball, so hopefully Hackett and Marrone will have some tricks up their sleeves to get the offense moving.

Week 13: Buffalo Bills vs. Atlanta Falcons (2-5) in Toronto

Few people foresaw the Falcons struggling this much after their near-Super Bowl run last year. The Bills will also be well rested up coming off of their bye week so hopefully they will have better success in Toronto than before. Atlanta’s run game is at the bottom of the league despite having Steven Jackson, but have the fourth best pass game with Matt Ryan (although Julio Jones is on IR now) and we all saw what happened against Brees… Defensively, Atlanta has been lethargic, but not being truly horrible either.

Go Bills!
