On late Sunday evening, Jason La Canfora of CBSSports.com reported that the Buffalo Bills were on the verge of signing free agent quarterback Pat White after a failed attempt to lure Josh Freeman - now a member of the Minnesota Vikings - into town.
That report appears erroneous at this time, however, as the Bills announced Monday morning that Thaddeus Lewis will start the team's Week 6 home matchup with the Cincinnati Bengals. ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that White, who was asked to stay in town through Monday morning, has now left Orchard Park and is on his way out west for a scheduled workout with the Oakland Raiders.
Buffalo was one of three teams that pursued Freeman heavily throughout Sunday evening, losing out on his services alongside the San Francisco 49ers. The team worked out both White and Dennis Dixon over the weekend, but it looks like that when Freeman landed in Minnesota, the team decided that Lewis gave them the best chance to win as a short-term starter.
