While the Bills playoff hopes are on life support they aren't out of the playoffs just yet.
Here's the scenario:
Bills win all 6 of their remaining games, end at 9-7. The Jets need to lose at least 3 games to non-Buffalo opponents. The Browns, Titans, Chargers and Ravens need to lose 3 remaining games. The Dolphins need to lose 2 games to non-Buffalo opponents. The Steelers and Raiders need to lose 2 games. The Texans need to lose 1 game.
There are also scenarios for the Bills losing 1 or 2 games, and then you would need to increase the losses for all of the other teams by 1 or 2 as well.
Alternatively, the Patriots would need to lose every game for the rest of the season for the Bills to have a shot at a non Wild Card spot.
What I view as likely to happen:
Bills finish 7-9 or 8-8 and miss the playoffs. They lose to the Patriots, and probably the Jets this weekend.
#1 seed: The Broncos win out.
#2 seed: The Patriots only lose to the Broncos going 13-3.
#4 seed: The Bengals finish 11-5, losing to the Colts.
#5 seed: The Chiefs finish 12-4, losing to the Broncos twice, and the Chargers twice
#6 seed: The Chargers finish 9-7, losing to the Bengals and Broncos.
The Jets finish 8-8, losing to the Ravens, Dolphins twice and Panthers. This is the shakiest proposition here, because the Jets could easily win one against the Dolphins and the Chargers could easily drop one to the Chiefs.
Dolphins finish 8-8, losing to the Bills, Patriots and Chargers. Another shaky proposition. They could just fall apart with all that's going on.
Ravens and Titans finish 7-9.
Raiders and Steelers 4-12
This would set the bills up around the 12~16th draft pick.
The two things I'm looking for the rest of the season:
EJ to make improvements from week to week.
The Bills to bury the bad teams (Jaguars & Buccaneers) and try to get a 3 game win streak in there.
Things that would be really frustrating:
Losing our "home" game to the Falcons.
Losing to the Jags and the Bucs.
