Andre Reed among 2014 NFL Hall of Fame class finalists

USA TODAY Sports

Andre Reed is once again a Hall of Fame finalist, but the presence of first-year finalist Marvin Harrison likely diminishes his chances at enshrinement significantly.

Former Buffalo Bills wide receiver Andre Reed is among 25 finalists for the NFL's 2014 Hall of Fame class, and will look to break through for enshrinement after making it to the finalist round seven previous times.

Reed, as you're very likely aware, holds Bills franchise records for receptions, receiving yards and touchdowns, finishing his 16-year playing career with 951 receptions, 13,198 yards and 87 touchdowns.

The presence of first-time finalist Marvin Harrison will almost certainly diminish Reed's chances for enshrinement this year. Harrison, the all-time leading receiver for the Indianapolis Colts, finished his playing career with 1,102 receptions for 14,580 yards with 128 touchdowns. He and quarterback Peyton Manning broke several passer-receiver duo records in their time together in Indy, surpassing Reed and Hall of Fame quarterback Jim Kelly in most of those categories.

Tim Brown, an Oakland Raiders great, is the third receiver eligible for enshrinement this year. He finished his career with 1,094 receptions for 14,934 yards and 100 touchdowns, putting him ahead of Reed in each of those statistical categories, as well. Reed, however, made the cut to the final 10 ahead of Brown last year - but he did the same over Cris Carter the year prior, and Carter was enshrined last August.

Nonetheless, congratulations to Andre Reed, whose long streak of finalist runs is impressive in its own right. There's no doubt that he belongs in the Hall next to his former head coach, Marv Levy, and former teammates Kelly, Thurman Thomas, James Lofton and Bruce Smith.
