Question about defensive rankings

I see from the NFL.com stats page that the Bills are ranked 1st or tied for first in sacks and interceptions. We are ranked 7th in defensive touchdowns. 16th in yards per game but only 27th in points allowed per game.

I love the sacks and interceptions, very exciting, but it seems like points allowed per game is the most important stat. Oddly, Houston has the best yards allowed per game but ranks 28th in points allowed per game. I'm wondering how to take the true measure of the defense. I know we are a lot better than last year. I hated those games where the other team would run 10 yards up the middle all game long. It seems like we have a lot of good players on defense.

But do we still kind of stink? 27th is not good.

Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.
