This topic has come up a few times in the season. Spiller has a ton of talent, and can be a dynamic running back, as we saw in 2012. However, it looks like his production isn't scheme-agnostic, and it's fair to wonder if we'll ever see the ridiculous plays we saw with Spiller in the Chan Gailey offense now that Doug Marrone is running things.
Here's the lowdown: CJ Spiller is a 5'11", 200 lb running back in his 4th year out of his 5 year, $25 million rookie contract. He ran a 4.37 40 yard dash at the Combine, rushed for 1244 yards on 207 carries last year (6 YPC), and is capable of breaking off huge plays when given the ball and space to move.
However, he also has struggled with ankle injuries this year, regressed as a traditional runner, and generally been less effective than the ageless wonder, Fred Jackson.
The Indianapolis Colts traded a first round draft pick for Trent Richardson earlier in the season. At this point, people would say they got fleeced, but this raises an interesting question - knowing what Spiller is capable of, would you trade him? What would it take for you to trade Spiller to another team? If the Jaguars or the 49ers or the Giants call you up offering picks, would you pull the trigger? And what's a fair value for Spiller? Or is he untouchable as a potential Buffalo star player?
Vote and talk about it. I'm curious what people think.
