Buffalo Bills teammates of the Week: C.J. Spiller and Fred Jackson

Kevin Hoffman-USA TODAY Sports

The Bills had a lot of problems offensively against the Chiefs, but C.J. Spiller and Fred Jackson still had an outstanding day carving up one of the league's best defenses.

The Kansas City Chiefs should have seen them coming. Jeff Tuel, an undrafted rookie free agent, was starting at quarterback. Obviously, the Buffalo Bills were going to try to run the football; that would have been true regardless of who was playing quarterback, but it was doubly true with Tuel under center.

Yet throughout the Bills' 23-13 loss, C.J. Spiller and Fred Jackson were running around and through Chiefs defenders, combining for 254 total yards on offense (54 percent of the team's total on the day) and spearheading a 241-yard rushing effort, the highest single-game total for the Bills and their No. 6-ranked rushing offense this season.

Spiller, in particular, breathed life into a Bills offense that desperately needed his big-play ability. This was Spiller's first 100-yard rushing effort since a Week 2 win over Carolina, and his 155 total yards from scrimmage on 14 touches is made all the more impressive by the fact that, limited by a high ankle sprain, he was only on the field for 23 plays. Jackson was his usual self, carving out yards after first contact and picking up critical first downs that, unfortunately, the team couldn't later capitalize on in pretty much every circumstance.

Buffalo has a lot to figure out on offense, but against Kansas City, they had no issues finding big plays from C.J. Spiller and Fred Jackson.
