Fred Jackson injury: Bills RB produces despite broken ribs

Timothy T. Ludwig-USA TODAY Sports

As if Fred Jackson's legend needed another boost, he got one anyway in a season-best performance with broken ribs against the Dolphins.

On Sunday, Fred Jackson became the third running back in Buffalo Bills history to run for 5,000 yards in his career. He joins Hall of Fame runners Thurman Thomas and O.J. Simpson on that list.

Jackson was also the bell cow in a gritty, 19-0 shutout win over the Miami Dolphins. He ran the ball 19 times for 111 yards and the game's only touchdown, a nine-yard rush to put the Bills up 10-0 in the second quarter. With an additional seven receiving yards as well, Jackson is now up to 1,170 yards from scrimmage this season, and has nine total touchdowns to boot.

Here's the kicker: Jackson, who missed two days of practice leading up to today's game with a rib injury, actually has broken ribs, according to The Buffalo News. Jackson is 32 years old. The Bills weren't playing for much beyond professional pride. Jackson suited up anyway, then went out and played a huge role in helping the Bills put a serious dent in Miami's playoff hopes.

Obviously, we'll be keeping an eye on Jackson's prognosis heading into a Week 17 matchup with the New England Patriots. For now, Jackson deserves a public tip of the cap for being a badass.
