How I see the #8 pick...

Once again, we are picking near the top of the draft. This means we have the opportunity to knock it out of the park and grab a player that will help our team for years to come. Despite a few expected ups and downs with our #1 picks, we have drafted relatively well in the first round during the Buddy Nix era. I expect that trend to continue. I know we need a franchise quarterback, but this not the best year to reach for one. We have to show some restraint. Franchise QB's don't grow on trees, and the closest thing to a sure bet this year is Geno Smith. So here's what I say...

It's all but a mathematical certainty that one of these players will fall to us at #8:

Ezekiel Ansah
Dee Milliner
Bjorn Warner
Geno Smith
Barkevious Mingo
Damontre Moore
Luke Joeckel

Any one of those players could fill a big role for us. All of them have more "boom" to them than "bust". We have to grab one of them. And we will. The franchise QB will come later. He might even come in the second round, in the form of Nassib, Glennon, or Wilson. Or perhaps Manuel or Bray in the third. We might have to wait until next year, and see what Fitz can do under a new head coach and with a better supporting cast. Hell, we might have to wait another two years. But we can't give up on the sound logic of drafting the BPA in a position of need. That's how winners are built.

Feel free to discuss or argue.
