At this point it seems inevitable that they will use a franchise tag on Byrd. I hope they use the non-exclusive tag. I am sure many people on here will be infuriated by this, but this is a "moneyball" type strategy in the NFL. Use non-exlusive tag and let's see what happens. If he is really as desirable as the pundits claim, we run the chance that someone will sign him for a higher offer and give up a couple first round picks.

If no one counters, we got him around for another year at and affordable rate and we can negotiate a longer term contract in season. It's a win-win.

The exclusive tag would be a waste.
