Fellow Bills fans, first time post, take it easy lol
While this really might not be "the year of the qb" obviously that was last year, but this is the year of our QB(seemingly). I have been a strong supporter of bringing in Ryan Nassib and building upon the Syracuse foundation. Disclaimer: gigantic orange fan(destroy Indiana). The idea of getting Ryan Nassib however has been IMO seemingly more and more likely that we will have to use the 8th overall pick which has a lot of great value. We have a lot of holes, but we desperately need a QB. When this all started I really thought we would be able to draft Nassib in the 2nd with ease and be able to draft a really talented player at 8th overall. It seems to me that Nassib will most likely be gone in the second round given trending drafts and positive analyst reviews of him of late.(hype). So I began thinking about two things, 1. What would be the best QB to take at 8th and 2. How could we get Nassib most efficiently.
1. There are really only two QBs I think that most consider talented enough to take at 8th overall. Again, with the trends of drafting if you think a QB is "your guy" you take him with your 1st round pick. As far as prospects go I think most would agree Geno Smith and Matt Barkley would be the top two QBs in this class. If Geno falls to 8, which he undoubtedly won't, I would be angry if the Bills passed.(I realize there are a lot of fans who disagree). I have seen a lot of Geno but only a few Barkley games over the past years, so while impressive I just never thought he was cut to succeed at the next level. (Possibly his blonde hair and California kid attitude lol or the fact that mark Sanchez sucks for the jets, and then the failure of past USC QBs). So since this assessment of him was unfair I decided to read up on him. After reading a handful of positive reports and watching some gameplay that I found, I'm actually starting to really like the idea of drafting Barkley at 8. Helll draft him at 8 and one of his ridiculously talents WRs, screw it both of them lol. His arm strength is not an issue to me, however his deep throws did have a lot of adjustments by receivers back to the ball. His accuracy in the intermediate range is great (hello Stevie)! And his deep ball is nice, in the pros he will just have to pick and choose his spots more. His leadership poise and decision making/ability to read a defense are something that Doug Marrone, Nathaniel Hackett, and the Bills could really use. So from California bust to one of my favorites I think in the draft. So do you think he is worth 8th overall? Will he last to 8 th overall?
2. So he doesn't last to 8th overall or he is not regarded as worthy by the Bills, what then? Since I like Nassib I'm going to use him in this scenario. Do we draft Nassib at 8? I'm not a big proponent of this but if it happens I won't be angry. I would love to see the Bills find a trade partner and trade back gaining some picks to fill holes, but it depends how the chips fall. If they can't trade back out of the top 10 to stockpile picks and nab Nassib , the other alternative would be drafting bpa and finding a way to trade back into the first. This would cost us critical draft picks, especially the way we've been so active in free agency. Ideally they could gain picks and their franchise QB. I am starting to think we will just take him at 8th overall though. Do you think he is worth 8? Will he last to the 2nd round? Who would you take 8? Who would you rather have at qb?
Just another bored buffalo fan.
