The Buffalo Bills announced on Wednesday that the team has tendered an exclusive rights free agent offer to halfback Dorin Dickerson, retaining his rights heading into the 2013 season.

Much was made last summer (admittedly by yours truly, as I was infatuated by the idea of a halfback in Chan Gailey's offense) of the addition of Dickerson, a former seventh-round pick of Houston's, to the team. Then he played just 97 snaps all season - 47 of which came in a Week 16 loss to Miami - and caught a mere nine passes for 117 yards in 2012.

The idea of retaining Dickerson, however, makes a good deal of sense. He'll turn just 25 later this month and still offers upside as a versatile receiving option. Plus, with fullback Corey McIntyre set to test the free agent market and tight end Scott Chandler recovering from a late-season ACL tear that required surgery, having a player on the roster that can reasonably fill both roles makes sense.

Buffalo has one other exclusive rights free agent - tight end Mike Caussin - but has not made a public proclamation one way or the other on whether he'll be returning.
