This is something I have been thinking about for a couple days, and I thought I would pitch it to the folks at BR:
We've spent the last several days discussing the likelihood of Nassib being the eventual pick at #8. In the course of this conversation, many have brought up his emerging reputation as possibly the best QB in the draft; this point is fueled largely by several prominent talking heads (Cosell, Gruden, King, and Lande among others) labeling him as such. And while we know the musings of these fellows have no effect on a front office's big board, this opinion is likely shared by at least a few NFL teams.
And that, Bills fans, brings us to this question: If other teams (namely the Eagles, Browns, Cardinals and Jags, all of whom were named by Nassib as teams who have shown a lot of interest in his services) have Nassib ranked as their top QB, and believe as strongly as many of us as well as other sports pundits do that the Bills will have his name at the top of their list at #8 as well, will they pick him earlier, knowing that he will not be around later?
Or alternately, will an early selection of Geno push the Browns or Cards to select Nassib at 6 or 7?
We have long discussed the idea on this board that as many as two quarterbacks could be off the board by the time Buffalo announces their selection - the two names mentioned in this theory have mostly been Geno and Barkley. But if teams have Nassib listed above Barkley (of which it's easy to conceive), then it could just as conceivably be Geno and Nassib.
Many posters here have expressed concern that Nassib at #8 could be a reach, but we might have the opposite problem and he might instead be off the board. The thought as of a few days ago was that Buffalo might be between Barkley and Nassib at eight, but they might not have the choice - one of them might be long gone.
