Chris Brown from Buffalobills.com gave some insight into the possible Bills draft strategy today. He mentioned that he felt Nix would be very interested in trading down. He also said he didn’t get the sense that they like the value at QB for pick #8. He thinks they want to go QB and WR in the first two rounds and would like to trade back from pick 8 and grab their QB with the later first round pick. He believes they’ll grab an ‘instant contributor’ WR in round 2.
Now that is pretty much confirming what we are all thinking. I wanted to see what Chris Brown thought about our draft plans before the 2012 draft. So I looked up his comments from last year. First, he was asked about our glaring LT need and if we’d take one at #10. His comment was that he didn’t think the value of Glenn or J Martin was worth the #10 pick and he doubted we’d pick them there. He even threw out the name of Barron as a possible pick (and we now know that we really wanted him).
He also predicted a WR would be picked in the first three rounds, which also came true. And another popular ‘draft expert’ pick to us last year was Michael Floyd. Brown said that he didn’t think they had Floyd as a top 10 player.
So, reading his comments last year, it was pretty spot on. There wasn’t a mention of Gilmore explicitly, but he did mention Barron and discounted the LTs and Floyd at that spot.
I just think this is more evidence that Buddy’s plan is to do everything possible to trade down from #8 and select his QB. Then grab a WR in round 2. No grand revelation here, but it just gives us more confirmation on their draft plans.
