Everything is falling into place for good ol' Buddy Nix.
Signing Kolb gives us a solid (and potentially good) stop-gap qb. This is a perfect time to draft and develop a qb. And that qb is Mike Glennon.
Glennon has been getting some praise lately on this site. Which makes me smile since he has been my top qb all along. He fits Doug Whaley's description as "strong-armed, accurate, tough, and a leader". Buddy has personally scouted him the past two years. I think Buddy traded up for TJ Graham because he knew that he wanted Glennon this year, and wanted to keep the deadly combination. He needs to sit and develop (bulk-up, work on footwork) for a year to reach his full potential and we are in perfect position to do so.
A lot of rumblers can agree that Glennon isn't a first round talent at this very moment. However Buddy also stated that if there is a quarterback you want you might have to take him a round early. Glennon will not last until 41 and I think Buddy will take him somewhere in the first.
Whaley has also commented on the deepest positions in the draft. He claimed reciever, defensive back, and defensive line are all positions that you could find quality players in later rounds. I think that definitely plays into our draft strategy.
1. KC - Luke Jockel OT
2. JAX - Shariff Floyd DT
3. OAK - Geno Smith QB
4. PHI - Dion Jordan DE
5. DET - Ezekiel Anash DE
6. SF (trade with CLE) - Dee Millner CB
7. ARZ - Eric Fisher OT
8. SD (trade with BUF) - Chance Warmack OG
9. NYJ - Jarvis Jones OLB
10. TEN - Star Lotulelei DT
11. BUF - Mike Glennon QB
So the Bills get their future starter. Onto the rest of the draft!
41. Zach Ertz TE, Stanford
71. Da'rick Rogers WR, Tenn. Tech
76. (from SD) John Bostic LB, Florida
105. Travis Frederick OG, Wisconsin
110. (from SD) Terry Hawthorne CB, Illinois
143. Malliciah Goodman DE, Clemson
177. Earl Wolff SS, NC State
Soooo long story short the Bills get 4 immediate starters (Ertz, Rogers, Bostic, Frederick) and their future starting qb. Throw in some free agents and undrafted free agents for depth and our roster isn't as bad as many think it is. I would be ecstatic if this is how the draft turned out for our beloved Bills!
