Do you just not like Nassib?
I have plenty of opinions on stats, and film, and quarterback qualities, but I'm going to throw that aside for the moment. Because lets face it, Buddy Nix and his staff are far better at scouting players than I am. So I don't generally get too upset if they draft a player I didn't consider the best at the position. However, I doubt I'd be able to give them the benefit of the doubt so easily with Nassib.
Don't you have it backwards?
Thanks to Marrone and Hackett, the Bills know more about Nassib than any other team in the NFL by far. If they draft him high then that must mean they know he can handle it, right? Not exactly. If I wanted an NFL front office to give me a detailed analysis of what areas Nassib is better at than others and what areas he most needs to improve on, I'd go to Buffalo. If I wanted an accurate ranking of where Nassib stood compared to other QBs, Buffalo would be last on my list of stops.
I'm sorry, but they worked too closely together and appeared to get along just great based on all interviews I've heard. There isn't a more biased coach in the NFL, and I just can't trust his opinion in that regard. And whether his staffing choices work or not, Marrone hasn't exactly dispelled the notion that he might give preferential treatment to those he's familiar with.
If any other QB gets taken, I can just shrug and assume that that was the scouting department's fair assessment of the best QB available. If Nassib gets taken, I immediately have to worry if Marrone just talked Nix into the pick based on his own biased ratings. If we end up drafting multiple Syracuse players my cynicism would only grow. At that point I think I'd be assuming cronyism until and unless they proved they were worth the pick.
I don't It'll be much better for my peace of mind, and sense of optimism for the coming season if we take pretty much any QB instead of Nassib.
