Dr. Strange Draft: Or, How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Accept Helplessness

Hi guys. I don’t comment here very often, but I’m a college football and NFL contributor at the SB Nation main site. I’m also a lifelong Bills fan, and I’ve been tumbling this around in my head for a while and needed to get it out. Hell, some of you might even agree with me!

As you all know, the draft gets underway on Thursday. We’ve hit zero hour on insane draft speculation, and I trust I’m not alone when I say that I will hate the next few days. Like, furiously, passionately hate them. Speculation has already gone to a ridiculous level, and all we can do is sit there and wait. It is not a real good time.

There is a certain helplessness that comes with being a fan of a team. As a fan, you develop opinions about what the team should do, and more often than not, they don’t follow the advice you so graciously shout at the television. Sometimes they get along just fine without our input, and other times, they should have listened!

As dumb as this sounds, part of being a fan is forming opinions, then measuring team performance against what you think they should have done. Quite often, those opinions are strong. STRONG TAKES, if you will. It’s natural, and it’s fine. However, at this point, I’m ready to give up, because in the end, I have no idea what I’m talking about.

The Bills are going to draft a quarterback in either the first or second round of the draft. If they don’t, I’ll be shocked. If you’re reading this, chances are good that you have an opinion about who that quarterback should be, and when they should draft him. We’ve heard that the team is high on Ryan Nassib and Matt Barkley, and you know what?

That’s fine.

I don’t necessarily agree that they're the best options at 8, but I’ve been wrong before. People can make cheap jokes, but this team has poured countless man hours into breaking down these quarterbacks. If they have a strong feeling that one will be the guy that can get this team back to the playoffs, then they should take him as soon as they can.

I like Nassib. I'm ehh on Barkley. I wouldn't be torn to bits if they passed on Geno Smith. I'll pull my hair out if they take E.J. Manuel. I have thoughts on Tyler Bray, but I freely accept that I may be crazy.

These guys know better than I do. I may not agree with that statement when the Bills are getting blown out during yet another meaningless December game, but these guys know better than I do. I may not agree with the team's selection on Thursday, but I’m damn sure going to give the kid a chance. Who knows, maybe he might be The Guy.

Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.
