Let’s say the Bills don’t take a QB at pick #8 and don’t trade up or down from there. Assuming for this poll that Dion Jordan, Luke Joeckel and Eric Fisher are definitely off the board. I think that is a safe assumption.
My favorite non-QB selection for the Bills would be Jordan. I just don’t see any way he makes it to pick 8. If he did, then I’d be jumping up and down for him. Since I don’t see that being a possibility, then the non-QB that I’d be happiest with is Dee Milliner. I think he’s the safest player at a position of need that we can pick at #8. Having Milliner opposite Gilmore would be very imposing for offenses for the next decade. And with Byrd at safety, our secondary would have the makings of a top 5 unit for a long time.
I also strongly considered Mingo and Jarvis Jones too. Mingo has amazing potential and I would love to add a stud pass rusher opposite Mario. But I see a lot of inconsistency in Mingo’s game and I think he’s a high risk, high reward type of player.
Being a Georgia resident and fan, I’ve seen a lot of Jarvis Jones. I honestly wasn’t surprised by his poor showing at the combine. I never viewed him very high from an athletic standpoint. I think he’s a very smart player and will be a solid player at the NFL level. I just don’t know if he has the athletic ability to ever be truly elite at the next level.
I just couldn’t come up with one player (outside of Jordan) that I truly loved at #8. Which is why I believe this is the year to trade back if we can. It is also the reason why I strongly support grabbing a QB in round one. I just don’t think we’ll be passing on a “can’t miss” prospect at #8. I’d rather roll the dice on Barkley or Nassib or Geno instead.
But, which of the following players would you want at #8 if we don’t select a QB? If your guy isn’t on the list, please add him in the comments section.
