2013 NFL Draft results: Buffalo Bills pick Marquise Goodwin

Tim Heitman-US PRESSWIRE

Goodwin, an Olympic athlete, brings elite speed to an offense that is suddenly looking very fast in several ways.

With the No. 78 overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, the Buffalo Bills have selected Texas wide receiver Marquise Goodwin.

The 5'9", 183-pound Goodwin, a senior, is an Olympian - he represented the United States as a long jumper at the last games. Naturally, he's also one of the fastest receivers you'll find; he tore up the Combine in February with a 4.27-second 40-yard dash and an 11-foot broad jump.

In four years at Texas, Goodwin was not the most productive wideout, hauling in 120 passes for 1,364 yards with seven touchdowns. With such elite speed and quickness, however, he projects very well to the NFL - particularly in a fast-paced offense like the no-huddle attack brought in by Doug Marrone and Nathaniel Hackett. The Bills are collecting two types of athlete at the skill positions: possession-types (Stevie Johnson and second-round pick Robert Woods, who can hurt defenses in the shorter areas of the field and after the catch), and players with game-breaking speed (C.J. Spiller, Goodwin and, heck, even E.J. Manuel).

Goodwin is a tough player with great upside, and he fits the Bills' new offense. The only question this pick raises: what of 2012 third-round pick T.J. Graham, who was also drafted because of his elite speed? The team will clearly be looking to find room for two speed receivers in this offense.
