Our Picks' "Character Issues"

So I just want to put this out there, because I constantly hear draft pundits and lay people talk about "character issues" of these young men. I just find it really interesting that people think that having some alcohol or a little pot at some points constitutes bad character. I would call that being a young man in college.

So we draft E.J. Manuel, who seems to be an individual with incredible skills as well as ***HIGH CHARACTER*** yet it's a terrible draft pick in experts' eyes, because apparently we didn't get good enough value from that pick.

Kiko Alonso is a guy who was pretty universally loved by people around him. So because he had a couple alcohol related incidents, he has character issues.

Da'rick Rogers is the closest to any of these players who has legitimate character issues, but even then, that's really more related to substance, and disagreements. That is possible in almost any setting.

The other thing I find to be too revealing is how naive some people must be to believe that most of these guys aren't doing exactly the same things, but that their coaches swoop in and bail out the players, suggesting they'll "take care of it." Which probably means making him run laps, sit in scout for a few days, etc. College athletes tend to be shielded from serious repercussions for their actions, and we don't know about most of the incidents that happen. We might just be smart to pick the guys who fell in the draft because THEY GOT CAUGHT DOING THE STUFF THAT EVERYBODY DOES AND BECAME BETTER VALUES. I call that smart... not risky.

P.S. I LOVED THIS DRAFT!!!!! Solid, solid draft and we really made our offense a LOT better. I just can't wait until the season starts! If you are hesitant about EJ Manuel, look at his sport science video. Remember when Dareus was on there? EJ's vid is pretty incredible, and I just keep watching his games... while he had some bad throws at times (see the screen he throws against wake forest where he almost threw a pick 6 on a designed WR screen), he also has an incredibly fast release. That is taylor made for an NFL QB. Quick release, great elusiveness in the pocket, great arm... what more could you ask for? Who cares if he grades out as a 1st round talent? According to what measure? His "slow eyes?" Give me a break Kiper and McShay. I get nauseated listening to them...

Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.
