2013 NFL Draft: Jamie Collins, three others visit Buffalo Bills

Kim Klement-US PRESSWIRE

When they're not looking at quarterbacks, the Bills are visiting with players that offer a great deal of versatility.

In addition to North Carolina State quarterback Mike Glennon - which we discussed earlier this afternoon - the Buffalo Bills confirmed three more pre-2013 NFL Draft visitors were at One Bills Drive on Wednesday. Those three players are:

  • Jamie Collins, OLB, Southern Mississippi: Versatility. That's what Collins, one of the most intriguing athletes in this year's draft class, offers. A highly productive four-year player in college (313 tackles, 45 tackles for loss, 21 sacks and three interceptions), he's also an explosive athlete. He blew up the Combine, running a 4.64-second 40-yard dash and putting up an eye-popping 41.5-inch vertical jump at 6'3" and 250 pounds. Collins is athletically capable of getting up the field as an edge rusher and covering tight ends with his above-average speed. There's little doubt as to why a prospect like Collins would be intriguing to a creative mind like Mike Pettine.
  • Jonathan Meeks, S, Clemson: A two-year starter at Clemson, the 6'0", 209-pound Meeks recorded 123 tackles and five interceptions in 2011 and 2012. As is typical of prospects that the Bills are interested in, Meeks is a rock solid athlete at his position (4.55 in the 40-yard dash, 33.5-inch vertical jump) and an experienced player from a power conference. He profiles as a later-round draft pick.
  • Russell Shepard, WR, LSU: Shepard was once a highly-touted high school recruit that never really found a role (or a position, for that matter) in four years at LSU. The 6'1", 196-pound high school quarterback was used as a runner and receiver at LSU in a "slash" type role; he finished his career with 1,286 yards gained from scrimmage and 10 touchdowns despite never getting the opportunity he really wanted: to line up under center. We know the Bills like versatility - see Brad Smith - and Shepard has the requisite athleticism (4.46 in the 40, 38.5-inch vertical jump) to get a look at the NFL level.

The Bills have now confirmed seven pre-draft visitors (out of their maximum of 30) in the last two days alone. We're keeping track of the full list in this StoryStream for your convenience (and, frankly, ours too).
