Buffalo Bills build a different kind of excitement in 2013

Timothy T. Ludwig-USA TODAY Spor

Bills fans are feeling a different kind of excitement this off-season as compared to last - but which year excites (or excited) you more?

The 2012 off-season was theoretically about making a playoff push for the Buffalo Bills. Last spring, the team moved to a new defensive scheme under a veteran coordinator and spent their biggest resources bringing in high-profile, productive players at positions of need - headlined by Mario Williams, Mark Anderson, Stephon Gilmore and Cordy Glenn. Once that off-season work was completed, then-GM Buddy Nix pulled in a 97 percent approval rating, and fans were talking about the possibility of contending for a playoff spot in a wide open division (behind New England, of course) against a "weak schedule."

This off-season has been a much different one for the Bills. Expectations for the upcoming season seem to be much lower, but the team wasn't stagnant in the spring months, either, overhauling their front office and coaching staff, then spending their first-round draft pick on a player (EJ Manuel) that will hopefully be the franchise signal-caller the team has needed for nearly two decades. When the final shoe dropped in the off-season, approval ratings were at 91 percent for the Bills' off-season efforts.

Our question for you to ponder today: as a fan, were you more excited heading into the 2012 season than you currently are heading into 2013? Or are you more excited by what transpired this off-season than you were by last spring's moves?
