Bills vs. Vikings final score: Kevin Kolb struggles in 20-16 Buffalo win

Timothy T. Ludwig-USA TODAY Spor

EJ Manuel may have solidified his spot atop the Buffalo Bills depth chart with Kevin Kolb's play on Friday night.

Kevin Kolb had the first half to stake his claim to the Buffalo Bills' starting quarterback job, but failed to take full advantage it. EJ Manuel led a touchdown drive on his first attempt and didn't look back, which very well could end the quarterback competition. That's the biggest storyline coming out of Buffalo's 20-16 win tonight over the Minnesota Vikings.

Kolb led two field goal drives at the end of the first half, going 13-of-21 for 111 yards as he settled following a sluggish start. Manuel tossed a touchdown pass on his first drive and finished 10-for-12 for 92 yards in one quarter of work.

Defensively, the Bills provided a lot of pressure on Vikings quarterbacks. Jamie Blatnick scored on a botched shotgun snap recovered in the end zone, and Jerry Hughes recorded two of Buffalo's four sacks. The Bills have allowed two defensive touchdowns through two preseason games, and are surrendering just 272 yards per game.

Overall, Buffalo continued sloppy play from Indianapolis, earning nine penalties in the first half to tie their output from last week. They added five more in the second half to finish with 14 for over 100 yards.

The only new injury involved receiver Kevin Elliott, who left in the first half after suffering what appears to be an ankle injury covering a kickoff. He was carted off the field. We'll have more on all the position battles and breakdowns from the game tomorrow.
