Buffalo Bills' Doug Whaley: NFL reviewing Nigel Bradham marijuana incident

Mark Konezny-US PRESSWIRE

Buffalo's starting second-year linebacker admitted to possession of a substance banned by the NFL, and the league is already reviewing the case, per GM Doug Whaley.

Reports surfaced only yesterday about Buffalo Bills linebacker Nigel Bradham being issued an appearance ticket for marijuana possession, but the NFL is already in the process of reviewing the incident, according to Bills GM Doug Whaley.

"It's handled at the league level," Whaley told reporters on Tuesday (via The Buffalo News). "It's under review as we speak. We'll wait for the ruling from the league, and then after that, everything else we will keep in house."

Whaley also told reporters that Bradham has already spoken with head coach Doug Marrone about the incident. As marijuana is a substance banned by the NFL, the second-year projected starting linebacker could ultimately face a suspension as long as four games.

"Obviously I had a matter that happened to me," Bradham said Tuesday (via WGR 550). "I have to abide by the rules and I know that it's legal issues. Pretty much just have to take them as they come and see what the league does, and try not to be a distraction to the team."

Whaley will meet face-to-face with Bradham after the NFL's review is completed, he said. If Bradham is suspended, the team will be forced to find a new starter to line up next to Kiko Alonso for a stretch of time. Bryan Scott, Arthur Moats and perhaps even Marcus Dowtin could figure into that conversation.
