Why is CJ struggling?

One thing that kept bugging me was: almost all of the plays were run out of shotgun.

Could this be a reason why CJ was struggling? I've never played football (other than the 3 on 3 variety) so I don't know the difference between getting the ball while you're moving forward vs getting the ball while you're standing still and then moving forward. Could this be a difference? It still doesn't explain why CJ sucked while Freddy was so good though.

The other thing is, maybe other teams are figuring out CJ as a one-trick pony? He needs space so he has to bounce outside to do his end run. You seal the edge and force him to run between tackles and have to brush up against bodies, and he gets timid & very pedestrian? Could this be the case?

What I love about Freddy is that he's not greedy. He can be patient and stays behind his own OL until he needs to break through and fight for the extra 2 yards. I do wish he was faster though, but I guess you don't usually get them all.

Anyway, it will be interesting to see how the work gets split between the 2 backs this year.
