Bills vs. Panthers Week 2 injury report: Jairus Byrd doubtful

US PRESSWIRE

For a second straight week, Jairus Byrd has been listed as doubtful as plantar fasciitis limits his practice participation. He is unlikely to play against the Carolina Panthers. The rest of the injury report is below.

When the Buffalo Bills take on the Carolina Panthers this Sunday, they'll be without several key contributors - a list that will likely include free safety Jairus Byrd, who is listed as doubtful for a second consecutive week.

Byrd, battling plantar fasciitis in both feet, was limited in all three practices this week and is unlikely to play. Just as last week, we can expect a mix of Aaron Williams, Da'Norris Searcy and Jim Leonhard to split the team's reps at the safety position.

Also out for a second straight week for the Bills are center Doug Legursky, cornerback Stephon Gilmore and kicker Dustin Hopkins. Thomas Welch and Sam Young will serve as the two reserve linemen against Carolina, while Justin Rogers and Dan Carpenter will replace Gilmore and Hopkins in the lineup, respectively.

New to the injury report are receiver Marquise Goodwin and cornerback Ron Brooks, who both suffered fractures to extremities that required surgery earlier this week. With Goodwin out of the lineup, Marcus Easley should see an uptick in playing time as both a fourth receiver and a kick returner. Brooks' nickel cornerback reps will be given to undrafted rookie Nickell Robey, who performed fairly well in the same role against New England.

On Carolina's side of the field, there isn't too much that's notable. Amini Silatolu, the team's starting left guard, will be back in the lineup after missing Week 1 with a hamstring issue. Last week's starting left guard, Chris Scott - you may remember him as a player that the Bills waived prior to training camp for failing the team's conditioning test - will slide over to right guard to replace the injured Garry Williams, who landed on Injured Reserve this week.
