Bills vs. Jets 2013: Jairus Byrd still limited, but progressing

Timothy T. Ludwig-USA TODAY Spor

Jairus Byrd remains limited as the Bills begin preparing for the Jets, but at least three of his fellow injury list members are making positive steps toward a return to the lineup.

Two Buffalo Bills players donned helmets and practice jerseys for the first time since their respective surgeries on Wednesday, and a third was a limited practice participant for the first time since the preseason as the Bills began preparing for the New York Jets.

Stephon Gilmore and Marquise Goodwin did not participate in practice, but wore helmets during the team's warm-up period and then worked with trainers off to the side. ESPN.com's Mike Rodak snapped a quick photo of the two players on the field today.

Two other players were non-participants on Wednesday: cornerback Ron Brooks, who is coming off of foot surgery, and kicker Dustin Hopkins, whose progress in rehab apparently has not yet extended beyond Nerf ball territory.

Doug Legursky, who has been out of the lineup since the Bills' preseason finale with a knee injury, returned to practice on a limited basis on Wednesday. He had begun doing conditioning work last week, and partook in individual drills on Wednesday. Jairus Byrd, meanwhile, remains limited as he battles through plantar fasciitis - several reporters on hand noted that he was still doing some scout-team work as a result - but head coach Doug Marrone told reporters that Byrd continues to inch closer to a return to the lineup.
