Post-Jets Thoughts

Another disappointing loss for the Bills today. I like to think that the Bills are a much better team than the Jets, maybe not. Hopefully the Bills will be able to learn from this loss. My initial reaction to todays game was to curse out Manuel, call him out as a bust, overreact, etc., etc. He very well may be, but I believe he is a better player than what we have seen. In my opinion, the weakest point on the offense is Hackett. The group of players out there is much to talented to play the way they did today, the play calling was atrocious. Hackett has a lot to work with, I don't think any of the weapons on offense were used well today. CJ should not be running up the gut, Manuel obviously likes to throw short passes, why not run a few screens to CJ and Fred? Screen plays worked very well last year, and they keep the pass rush much more honest. The play calling just made no sense, and EJ needs to be taking more shots downfield, but it did look the the Jets were covering the wideouts very tight. That's exactly why more RB screens need to be run. I was very underwhelmed by EJ's accuracy, I hope that was a factor of nervousness, or under defensive pressure. Too many balls out of bounds. Also I am beginning to question the usefulness of the no huddle offense. It's hard enough with a young QB, why make him rush through every set of downs? Give the defense a rest as well. With all the awfulness on offense, this game would have been won had it not been for injuries on D. A large part of why Smith looked so good today was the absence of any secondary. The 3 best players in the secondary are out, and losing Dareus did not help. If those 4 can come back soon, and offensive decision making improves I believe this team CAN still compete this year, and I've not given up hope on a winning season. Look at the talent on this team! Once they get their crap together they are a strong team! They gave the Pats a run for the money, and beat the Panthers (who won 38-0 against the Giants today) I know today was awful, and it is sure tempting to write this year off, I still think that some positive things will happen this year. At least I hope...

Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.
