Bills injury updates: C.J. Spiller, Mario Williams, Leodis McKelvin banged up

Anthony Gruppuso-USA TODAY Sport

Not only did the Bills lose an unbelievably frustrating and ugly 27-20 football game yesterday, but they lost a whopping five starters to injury in the process.

Adding injury to the insult of the Buffalo Bills' 27-20 loss to the New York Jets on Sunday is the fact that a whopping five Bills starters were injured on the day.

Leodis McKelvin suffered a hamstring injury early in the first half, and he was unable to return to the contest. His loss proved to be a crippling blow to Buffalo's defense, as the Jets and Geno Smith had a field day targeting the Bills' injury-ravaged secondary, with new No. 1 cornerback Justin Rogers taking most of the beating.

Marcell Dareus also left the game with an ankle injury. He appeared to suffer the injury early in the game and tried to play through it, but ultimately succumbed to whatever the issue was. Also injured on Buffalo's overwhelmed defense: Mario Williams, who was spotted limping badly in the locker room after the game with an ankle issue of his own; and Alex Carrington, who left the game late with what head coach Doug Marrone termed a knee ailment.

C.J. Spiller, meanwhile, left the game in the second half with a knee injury. Spiller disappeared early in the second half, with Fred Jackson taking the lion's share of running back reps, before it came to light that he was injured. Spiller walked to the locker room on his own power.

It's not yet clear how serious any of these injuries are - Marrone didn't have further details beyond the nature of the injuries in last night's post-game press conference - but if the Bills came into Week 3 banged up, then it's looking like they may enter Week 4 completely decimated by injury.
