Bills vs Patriots since 2000

Since 2000, the Buffalo Bills win/loss record against the Patriots has been 3-23…Ouch!!! Since the start of the millennium, the Bills have faced three New England Quarterbacks: Drew Bledsoe, Tom Brady and Matt Cassel, while the Patriots faced the following Bills Quarterbacks: Doug Flutie, Rob "Robosack" Johnson, Alex "The Doughboy" Van Pelt, Drew Bledsoe, Kelly Holcomb, JP Losman, Trent "Captain Checkdown" Edwards, and Ryan "The Amish Popgun" Fitzpatrick. The Bills were 1-1 against Bledsoe in 2000, before Tom Brady took over as the Patriots starting QB in 2001. Since Tom Brady took over, he has amassed a 20-2 record against the Buffalo Bills, throwing for 52 TD’s and 17 INT’s in that timeframe. Even Matt Cassel went 2-0 against the Bills in 2008 while Tom Brady suffered a season ending knee injury in Week 1 against the Kansas City Chiefs.

In the 26 games played since 2000 between the Bills and Patriots, the Patriots have had greater success against the Bills in their second divisional matchup of the year 10 out of 13 times. Let’s take a look at the scores of the first divisional games of the year against the Patriots since 2000:

· BUF 16 – NE 13 (Bledsoe)

· NE 21 – BUF 11

· NE 38 – BUF 7

· BUF 31 – NE 0

· NE 31 – BUF 17

· NE 21 – BUF 16

· NE 19 – BUF 17

· NE 38 – BUF 7

· NE 20 (Cassel) – BUF 10

· NE 25 – BUF 24

· NE 38 – BUF 30

· BUF 34 – NE 31

· NE 52 – BUF 28

To add it all up, the Patriots have outscored the Bills 347-242 (105 point difference). If you take out the two games Brady didn’t play against the Bills, the Patriots still outscored the Bills 314-216 (98 point difference). Now here’s where it gets ugly folks, the scores of the second divisional games against the Patriots:

· NE 13 – BUF 10 (Bledsoe)

· NE 12 –BUF 9

· NE 27 – BUF 17

· NE 31 – BUF 0

· NE 29 – BUF 6

· NE 35 – BUF 7

· NE 28 – BUF 6

· NE 56 – BUF 10

· NE 13 (Cassel) – BUF 0

· NE 17 – BUF 10

· NE 34 – BUF 3

· NE 49 – BUF 21

· NE 37 – BUF 31

To add it all up, the Patriots have outscored the Bills 381 – 130 (251 point difference) in the second divisional matchup since 2000. Take away the two games Brady did not play in against the Bills, the Patriots outscored the Bills 355 – 120 (235 point difference). In the 26 games played since 2000, the Patriots have outscored the Bills 728 – 372 (a 356 point difference). In the words of the late Ronnie James Dio: "LOOK OUT!" By looking at the scores, it’s painfully obvious that the Bills have played better against the Patriots in their first divisional matchup of the year. What also confirms that even further, is that the Bills are 3-13 against the Patriots in the first divisional matchup of the year, vice 0-16 in their second divisional matchup of the year. The last time the Bills beat the Patriots in their second divisional matchup of the year, was on December 26, 1999, when the Bills (led by Doug Flutie) defeated the Patriots (led by Drew Bledsoe) 13-10 in overtime. So, if the Bills have any chance of beating the Patriots in 2013, their best chance will come this Sunday at 1:pm.
