Buffalo Bills interviewing QB, WR coach candidates at 2014 Senior Bowl

Buffalo Bills head coach Doug Marrone is at the Senior Bowl in Mobile this week, and not just to scout 2014 NFL Draft prospects - he's interviewing potential assistant coaches, as well.

Speaking on The John Murphy Show from the 2014 Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama on Monday, Buffalo Bills head coach Doug Marrone confirmed the team's plans to add a quarterbacks coach to his staff - and that they are interviewing potential candidates for that role, plus the team's vacant receivers coach position, this week.

"We’ve started the interview process back in Buffalo," Marrone told Murphy. "Here, we’ll continue that process. It’s a little bit easier here, considering most of the coaches are down here. We’re going through that, two interviews a day, talking to people."

A report surfaced last week that the Bills were interested in bringing Green Bay running backs coach Alex Van Pelt back to Buffalo as the quarterbacks coach, but that hasn't panned out. Marrone seems adamant, however, that a position coach will be added to work with offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett on developing the team's young passers.

"We’ve talked about this with Nathaniel, that last year, obviously we weren’t planning on our veteran quarterback getting injured, in Kevin Kolb," Marrone explained. "In doing so, it put a lot of pressure - it’s very difficult to be the offensive coordinator and get everything in place, and get three quarterbacks eventually ready to play. Nathaniel did an outstanding job of that. I don’t know if I would wish that upon maybe my worst enemy in our profession. Nathaniel’s capable of doing everything himself, but I think it’s my responsibility to bring someone in to help us with that position."

The Bills are also in need of a receivers coach after Ike Hilliard was relieved of his duties immediately following the conclusion of the regular season. (Hilliard has since accepted the receivers coach position on Jay Gruden's staff in Washington.)

"I think it’s an important position for us," Marrone said. "We have a veteran receiver in Stevie Johnson, we have a very young room with a lot of talent in it. We have to make sure that we get the right person in that room."
