This is how stupid Cleveland is

I have to rant a bit. We all know that Cleveland has stolen our DC and he's raiding our better coaches.

But, this is what I don't get: How down in the dumps must Cleveland fans be over this? Let me explain. Usually when a team hires a new head coach, they come from a program that at least had some winning. Or they hire a retread of some kind and hope they strike magic (even Marv Levy was a retread with a losing record). When we look back at our coaches, we had Williams who was a hot name. So was .Mularkey. Even Chan Gailey had a winning record as a head coach before he came here. Dallas said some nice things about him.

But, what have the Browns done? Do they get a coach that has a winning record? Nope. Do they get a coach that had a great long reputation as a top level coach? Nope. Do they get a successful college coach? Nope. They get a first year defensive coach and hand him the keys to the club. I mean we liked Pettine, and he did a great job, but, man, how upset must the Browns fans feel when they don't even know if he's capable of running a team as a DC for a few years, much less a head coach. And while he did a great job with pressure and sacks and turnovers, his run defense was below average. And the Bills didn't have a winning record. And they had a middle of the road defense (that admittedly was good to great in some games and awful in others) that was wildly inconsistent.

And that was the man that was introduced as their new head coach.

Only the Browns could make us look like the Steelers in the way we do stuff. That might have been the worse hire I have ever seen from an unproven coach. Yes, we loved Pettine here, but, to say he's a great hire for a HC is a stretch. Who knows, he might end up being good, perhaps even great, but, I wouldn't bet it. Very few first time head coaches are ever good, and he, IMO was hardly ready for the job. Talk about desperate? At least we haven't sunk that far yet...

Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.
